E.ON has 20-year power purchase agreements with Arizona-based utility Tucson Electric Power for the 5MW and 10MW facilities.
The plants use a combination of modules from Canadian Solar and JA Solar, two China-based producers.
Christophe Jurczak, chief executive of E.ON’s global solar business, says he expects they will be “the first in a long series of [PV] constructions” in the US.
