Wirsol began work on the project in Monte Plata province after being awarded the country’s first power purchase agreement (PPA).
The plant will be developed in two phases, with the first 32MW chunk due to be grid connected by the end of this year.
Wirsol said solar has been rarely used as a generation technology in the Caribbean – despite insolation levels that are about 50% higher than in Germany.
