The government has announced that solar and waste-to-energy projects will be able to participate in the national tender in October, which aims to contract energy to be delivered by January 2016.

It is unclear whether solar will compete with wind and other sources, or if they will have a special incentive or a reserved demand.

According to Maurício Tolmasquim, head of the Energy Planning Agency, EPE, this is the first step for Brazil to start developing a dynamic solar market, either PV or CSP.
