The Democrat-controlled Public Regulation Commission, which oversees New Mexico’s energy market, has voted 3-2 to water down the amount of solar generation needed to meet the state’s renewables target.
Previously the system in place – approved by the PRC less than a year ago – saw all forms of renewables awarded one Renewable Energy Certificate per kWh of power generated.
Utilities are required to source a set – and increasing – amount of RECs from various forms of renewables.
