Mayor Bill White's office says NRG will build the 10-megawatt (MW) plant, which is due to come on line in Q2 next year, on 28 hectares near a natural-gas plant the company operates in northwest Houston.
Contract terms call for the city to buy solar power for $0.198 per kilowatt hour. NRG, based in New Jersey, expects to invest $40m to build the solar array.
