The other four partners in the 1.4GW project – including Swedish utility Vattenfall – say the decision “does not affect the deliverability” of NorthConnect.

The project partners hope to bring the interconnector into service by 2020, linking Peterhead in Scotland and Samnanger in Norway.

The plan has been backed by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, and would be a huge boon to Scotland’s ambitions to become an exporter of renewable electricity.
