Salmond backs 'excellent' Norway-Scotland grid-link plan

Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has thrown his weight behind the NorthConnect project, which seeks to build a subsea interconnector linking the grids of Norway and Scotland.

The NorthConnect project company was formed last year by five partners, including the Scottish and Swedish utilities SSE and Vattenfall.

The proposed 1.4GW link would run for 600km between Peterhead, Scotland, and Samnanger, Norway, with environmental assessments already under way in both countries.

The developers hope to bring the interconnector into service by 2020.
