Danish tower maker Welcon has landed an 80-unit order for Orsted's 752MW Borssele 1&2 wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.

Delivery of the towers, to be fitted with Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD direct-drive turbines, will take place through to mid-2020 from late this year.

With this latest order, Welcon says it backlog of more than DKr1bn ($150m), the largest in the Give-based company’s history.

Developer Orsted won the 2016 tender for Borssele 1&2, which will be the largest array off the Netherlands when completed in late 2020 or early 2021.

Welcon is providing the steel piece-work for the TetraSpar prototype project being run by Stiesdal Offshore Technologies, partered with Shell and Innogy.
