Sales at Vattenfall, Europe’s fifth largest electricity producer and an increasingly important renewables player, rose 15.7% to SEK52.2bn ($6.5bn). But the company attributed the growth to smart price hedges it made last year as well as favourable currency fluctuations

Operating profit rose 12.6% to SEK12.9m – but excluding currency effects, would have been up just 4.4%. Three-quarters of Vattenfall’s income is in foreign currency, and predominately euros, which have risen sharply in value over the last several months.
