Developer Vineyard Wind has awarded Belgian contractor DEME Offshore with the job of installing the turbines at its eponymous 800MW project in the US Atlantic, a breakthrough step for the developer following long redtape-entangled delays to its permitting under the Trump administration.

DEME will team up with US maritime service outfit Foss Maritime for the assignment, using a logistics set-up involving locally-contracted feeder vessels to transport components to the offshore site, 15 miles (24km) off Massachusetts, to comply with Jones Act restrictions on non-US flagged vessels operating between American ports and harbours.
