Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has won a 168MW order in Mexico to supply a corporate power-purchase agreement (PPA).

The Danish OEM will supply 42 of its V150-4.0MW turbines, the company says, but it has not revealed the project, developer or the purchaser of the wind farm's energy.

“This order showcases how Vestas’ technology can meet the increasing demand of private Mexican companies for clean, reliable and competitive energy,” says Agustín Sánchez-Tembleque, general manager of Vestas México.

The 73-metre blades of the 150-metre rotors will be manufactured in the TPI Composites factory in Matamoros, Mexico, which provides Vestas with blades for the increasing number of V136 and V150 orders that the company is receiving in Mexico and Latin America.

The turbine towers will also be produced by local suppliers, and the order includes a five-year service agreement.

More than 2.3GW ofVestas machines have been installed in Mexico since the OEM entered the market in 1994.

Greece order

Vestas later Thursday also announced a 88MW order from an undisclosed client for a wind park in Greece that comes coupled with a 20-year service contract.

Vestas will supply 21 of its V136-4.2MW turbines equipped with an anti-icing system for the project to optimise performance in the sites' specific climate conditions.

"This solution will minimise the risk of icing on the turbine blades, maximising energy production in cold climate conditions," the OEM said.

Turbine delivery is planned for the second quarter of 2020, whilst commissioning is planned for the second half of the same year.
