“The first [turbine] blade we made was baked in someone’s oven,” says chief executive Ditlev Engel. “This means a lot to our 22,000 colleagues.”
Vestas has manufactured more than 41,000 turbines, its units now producing more than 61 million MWh of electricity per year.
“Through innovation, imagination and persistence, Vestas put wind on the radar,” says Rajendra Pachaura, the head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the leader of the Zayed Prize jury this year.
