Former MHI Vestas chief technology officer (CTO) Torben Hvid Larsen has left the Danish wind turbine maker to join investment house Maquarie’s Green Investment Group as senior vice president and head of engineering.

Larsen, who joined parent company Vestas Wind Systems with the takeover of NEG Micon in 2003, had a wide range of roles at the OEM, from offshore wind turbine upgrade engineering, through fine-tuning of its 2MW onshore platform, to leading development of the then-biggest model ever, the 8MW V164 – which has been upscaled to the 15MW BlueMarlin.

“For me, it has been 20 fantastic years and a journey I will never forget,” said Larsen in a LinkedIn post. “I was leading the technology department as CTO from start to the end, which I’ll look back to with pride for years to come.

“I’m confident that Vestas will become one of the leaders in offshore wind and I will together with my old team be looking forward to seeing the BlueMarlin prototype spinning next year.”
