On 12 August, after a 23-day stand-off with workers, Vestas closed the turbine plant in Newport on the island, off the south coast of England, and a smaller plant in nearby Southampton, with the loss of 425 jobs.
A total of 11 workers were sacked during an occupation of part of the Newport plant. They left on 7 August, as bailiffs moved in to enforce an eviction order.
