Vestas has opened a nacelle assembly line in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, as the OEM gears up to supply a gigawatt-scale pipeline in the country.

The Vestas facility – on an existing site operated by German construction machinery group Liebherr – is part of the Danish turbine OEM’s supply chain investment to comply with strict local content rules in Russia.

The 250MW annual-capacity line was set up after Vestas emerged as turbine partner to a consortium formed by local group Rusnano and Finland’s Fortum, which scooped 1GW in Russia’s landmark wind power tender held last year.
