Vestas has started offering wind turbine operators in the US the chance to recycle decommissioned blades, a service the Danish manufacturer plans to expand globally amid increasing demand from customers that are insisting on it as “a must”.

The OEM’s service teams in September have decommissioned and recycled a first 10 turbine blades, and are working on several more recycling projects across the US, among them at EDPR’s 151MW Blue Canyon 2 repowering project and Enel Green Power’s 63MW Snyder Wind.
