Vattenfall has committed to an immediate landfill ban on decommissioned wind turbine blades, and by 2030 targets to reach a 100% blade recycling rate.

The Swedish utility - a major wind power producer and developer in Europe - as an interim step by 2025 wants to recycle half of the blades employed at the wind farms it operates.

“It is no longer acceptable for composite waste from the wind industry to be placed in landfills, even though specific country legislation allows for this,” said Eva Philipp, head of environment and sustainability at Vattenfall’s wind business area.
