Hamburg-based shipyard J.J. Sietas will build the “extremely innovative” vessel, which will be 139m long, fitted with a crane capable of hoisting 900 tonnes, and handed over to Van Oord by September 2012.
The order will alleviate – but not bury – concerns that a shortage of vessels will become a critical pinch point for the sector within a few years.
