Wind speeds were 5-10% above normal in the three-month period, reports 3TIER, a renewable energy resource measurement and risk analysis company. The company compares the output of its meteorological dataset with average conditions from 1969-2008.

The southern Mississippi Valley and southern Rocky Mountains had particularly strong winds in the period – as much as 25% above normal.

Below-average winds were observed in much of Canada, parts of California and the Southeast (where there is little to no utility-scale wind capacity installed).
