Just under 36GW of wind capacity was installed in 2010 as a result of “order books that sank to almost zero in some markets” during the financial crisis, according to Steve Sawyer, secretary-general of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
A record-breaking 38.6GW was installed in 2009.
Sawyer expects the market to rebound to “slight growth over 2009 levels” this year before resuming its upward flight path, with annual additions forecast to hit 60.5GW
