Senators voted 52-46 mainly along party lines to halt implementation of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan rule issued in September, which mandates a 32% reduction in emissions from existing plants by 2030.
They also voted by the same margin to impede EPA’s rule limiting emissions from new power plants that the agency issued in August.
Three Democrats joined Republicans in passing the measures and three Republicans voted against them.
