The 437-page American Energy Innovation Act of 2015 allows taxpayers to be able to choose between clean electricity technology investment and production tax credits on a scale based on carbon emissions of power generated – measured as grams of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) emitted per KWh.
Power plants that emit at least 25% less carbon than the current nationwide average begin qualifying for a small incentive, which increases as they become progressively cleaner.
