Vineyard Wind has awarded a turnkey contract for a 220/115kV onshore electrical substation to Linxon for its pioneering $2.8bn, 800MW project off the US state of Massachusetts’ southern coast.

Boston-based Vineyard – owned equally by Iberdrola’s Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners – did not disclose value of the contract, which is contingent on the project reaching financial close.

The federal government is expected to issue a landmark permit for the Vineyard Wind I project in December after 16 months of additional environmental studies.
