Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota together have installed 12.88GW of wind generation capacity, about 20% of the US total.
Most of that capacity is in Iowa and Minnesota, while the other four states have some of the country’s best onshore wind resource.
The final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) guidelines drawn up by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) aim to halve federal environmental reviews for project permitting to about one year.
