The US government has granted an eight-year extension of Vineyard Wind’s operations term for 5GW of contracted and potential offshore wind projects south of Massachusetts.

The term, which stretches the operational window on the country’s first utility-scale offshore wind farm from 25 to 33 years, takes effect on the date the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), the federal industry regulatory body, approves each project’s construction and operations plan (COP).
