Two US companies unveiled a $650m plan to transform a former coal-fired power plant site in southern Massachusetts into a “landing point” for 1.2GW of offshore wind energy with 400MW of onsite battery storage capacity.

The agreement calls for construction of a $250m high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) converter station that will become the central element of the future Anbaric Renewable Energy Center at the Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset.
