The areas are the 240-sq-mile (621.6sq km) Oahu North and 517-sq-mile Oahu South. They encompass some of the best wind speeds around the island – a range of 8.5-9.0 meters/second, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a federal scientific agency.
Both Oahu North and South are in federal waters no closer than 8 miles from shore.
The Call for Information and Nominations also solicits public comment on site conditions, resources and other uses in and near those areas.
