With a price tag estimated at £100bn ($161.7bn) by 2020, and an energy payoff of around 25 gigawatts (GW), many believe Round 3 will blaze a trail for future industrial-scale offshore wind parks around the world.
The UK government hopes Round 3 will lead to the creation of UK-based firms, technologies and skills that will pay dividends for decades to come, both within the offshore wind sector and marine renewables more broadly.
