UK energy regulator Ofgem has launched a probe into repeated failures of the £1.3bn ($1.7bn) Western Link subsea cable, built to transport renewable energy between wind-rich Scotland and the rest of the UK.

An Ofgem spokesperson told Recharge it will investigate the performance of Western Link, a joint venture between National Grid and Iberdrola-owned ScottishPower over whether there have been any licence breaches in its operation after it went out of service again earlier in January.
