Giant seabed leasing rounds over the last year mean the UK still outstrips China in terms of total pipeline for wind at sea, despite the latter taking the lead in installed capacity, according to new data released as Britain reportedly gets set to boost its ambitions in the sector after the Ukraine invasion.

The UK’s total offshore wind pipeline now stands at 86GW following January’s ScotWind round that unlocked a potential 25GW of new seabed and an earlier 8GW from the 2021 UK Round 4 process, which between them boosted the total by 60%, said industry body RenewableUK.
