The UK offshore wind industry has launched a bid to track the life and death of the small bird that poses one of the biggest challenges to the sector's huge growth ambitions – the kittiwake.
A joint project called OWSMRF involving the six largest developers active in the UK will look at putting coloured rings on individual birds to monitor their movements and survival rates, helping better predict how their colonies in eastern England will “respond to potential mortality induced by offshore wind farms”.
