Two yards in China and South Korea are going head-to-head in a race to build a giant wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) that can handle next generation machines of up to 20MW — with the prospect of a second order close behind.

China's Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea are in the running for the engineering, procurement and construction prize for one firm vessel order worth $300m, according to Asian yard sources, with the former seen as leading the race.
