Vestas will start delivering the turbines to the Bandirma province in northwestern Turkey by late 2010, with construction at the 31-turbine Sahres wind farm due for completion by mid-2011.The Danish wind giant recently finished construction in southern Turkey at the 33MW Mersin project for Galata, which was acquired by Agaoglu in late 2009.
Turkey, which is increasingly turning its eye to renewables to compensate for its scant oil and gas reserves, has set a target of meeting 30% of its electricity requirement from renewables by 2023, including 20 gigawatts of wind capacity.
