Marine engineering specialist DEME will install three prototype ‘collars’ around monopiles during the installation of RWE’s 342MW Kaskasi project in the German North Sea, to check the novel technology’s ability to increase the foundations’ load-bearing capacity.
The ‘collared monopile’ is designed based on a RWE patent and will provide additional support for lateral loading at the seabed, increase the bearing capacity and improve the structural integrity of the entire foundation, the companies said.
