The shuttered 1.6GW Brayton Point power plant in the US state of Massachusetts, once New England’s largest coal-fired power plant, will be given a second lease on life as a hub for the regional offshore wind sector with the construction of a $900m subsea cable factory.

Avangrid, a subsidiary of Spanish renewables giant Iberdrola, and Italian cable maker Prysmian today (Thursday) announced the development of the new facility, which will be Massachusetts’ first offshore wind manufacturing site.
