The deal will see TransAlta – already Canada’s largest publicly traded wind operator – further boosting its wind fleet, acquiring Suncor’s 20MW Kent Breeze wind farm in Ontario outright, as well as Suncor's 51% stake in the 88MW Wintering Hills wind farm in Alberta.

Both projects use General Electric wind turbines.

In exchange, Suncor will gain ownership of parts of TransAlta’s 376MW Poplar Creek co-generation plant, which produces electricity from both gas and steam for Suncor’s oil sands facilities near Fort McMurray, Alberta.
