French energy giant Total has joined a Danish-led project exploring the use of hybrid floating wind-wave power arrays to generate green hydrogen, for use in emissions reduction strategies at operating offshore oil & gas fields.

The O/G Decarb project, being run by Denmark’s Energy Innovation Cluster with finance from the European Regional Development Fund, is the latest in a line of projects aiming to decarbonise offshore oil & gas production, with Norway’s Equinor recently getting government go-ahead for a 88MW floating wind array to part-power the Gullfaks-Snorre field.
