The European offshore wind industry has developed a distinctly northern narrative over the past 30 years as some 35GW of plant has been brought into operation off Britain, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium, with Italy’s small — and long delayed — Beleolico development the sole southern EU project so far flowing power to the grid.
But this could dramatically change as Europe ratchets up its ambitions for sea-based production to 60GW by 2030 and 300GW by mid-century — and as high as 450GW
