The Texas power crisis earlier this year cost wind farm operators a total of around $4.2bn from lost production, according to a specialist consultancy that recommends changes to market arrangements and better weather resilience planning to address “asymmetric risks”.

ArcVera Renewables reckons the unexpected freezing weather that caused havoc to the entire Texas energy system in February caused an average of around $45m of financial impact per wind farm after it looked at 191 wind farms totaling almost 22GW of capacity.
