Taiwan’s offshore wind pioneer Swancor Renewable Energy (SRE) planted its flag in the emerging Japanese market through an alliance with local player Shizen Energy.

SRE and Shizen will form a joint venture to develop offshore wind projects in Japan’s far southern Kyushu region, where the latter is based.

SRE was in 2012 the domestic first mover in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector, starting with the island’s first project, the 8MW first phase of the Formosa 1 project, and says it has since built interests in 5GW of planned or constructed capacity in a Taiwanese market that has led the way in Asian wind at sea outside China.
