Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou and Premier Liu Chao-shiuan insist that a bill supporting renewable energy – which has been stuck in the legislature for more than six years – must clear the floor before the end of the current legislative session on 31 May.
The bill nearly passed in 2005, but was ultimately torpedoed by special interest groups.
InfraVest, the only foreign renewables developer currently operating in Taiwan, recently rattled Taiwanese lawmakers by announcing it would shift its focus from Taiwan to mainland China unless the alternative energy bill was successful pushed through.
