Gaynor was previously chief executive since 2004 of First Wind Holdings, which SunEdison and its yieldco subsidiary TerraForm Power acquired last week for $2.4bn.
SunEdison says the deal, first announced in November, creates the world’s largest renewable energy company with interests ranging from polysilicon manufacturing to wind and solar development, and – through TerraForm Power – power-plant operation.
Plans call for passing First Wind’s 500MW of operating wind and 21MW of operating solar capacity into TerraForm.
