The Japanese conglomerate will make the indirect investment alongside Macquarie Capital in a deal that is due to complete within the next few months, it said in a statement issued today.
Sumitomo has already invested in three Belgian offshore projects as part of a global renewables strategy that also includes US wind and solar.
The Japanese group said: “As one of the key business areas, Sumitomo is actively seeking offshore wind business opportunities in the UK, which has the biggest offshore wind market in the world.”
