The US is positioned to add a record 15.2GW of wind power capacity this year but “substantial challenges” linked to issues including logistics and interconnection could mean another 6GW of advanced-stage projects get rolled over into 2021 and 3GW face abandonment, according to Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables.

There is 6.9GW of capacity under construction and 8.3GW more planned for commercial operation this year, most of it in the Midwest, Plains states, Texas and West, Dan Shreve, WoodMac's head of global wind energy research, said during a webinar.
