Statoil Wind US informed the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) that it may want to lease both the 240-sq-mile (621.6 sq km) Oahu North and 517-sq-mile Oahu South zones that the agency proposed earlier this year for potential commercial wind development.

Statoil joins private developers Alpha Hawaii Wind (AHW), a subsidiary of Denmark’s Alpha Wind Energy, and Progression Energy, based in Portland, Oregon, which earlier unveiled offshore Oahu projects.
