The deadline to green-light the $235m State Pier offshore wind hub project in Connecticut, US, has passed without obtaining its federal approval, raising the possibility that an exit clause will be triggered by its main backer, the 700MW Revolution Wind joint venture (JV) development partners Orsted and Eversource.

Negotiations were held between the developers, the Connecticut Port Authority (CPA), and the New London port operator Gateway that extended the deadline for final approval to 15 October, but with no guarantee that the permit will be issued by the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) – the US government’s permit issuing authority for major infrastructure projects – the State Pier redevelopment remains uncertain.
