UK-based SSE Renewables planted its flag in the Japanese offshore wind sector as it forged an alliance with local developer Pacifico Energy that could lead to development of ‘multi-gigawatt’ fixed and floating projects.

The renewables arm of utility SSE is buying an 80% stake in a portfolio of early-stage projects held by Pacifico in a first foray beyond Europe for the UK company, which is building or planning some of the largest offshore wind farms in its home market.
