Spain’s government has introduced a measure into parliament to levy a so-called 'gas tax' on renewables that represents a retroactive charge and could undermine the outlook for new wind and solar investments in the county, and with it endanger the EU Green Deal, wind groups have said.

Madrid claims the charges are to compensate for higher revenue power producers are earning as a result of higher wholesale electricity prices as a consequence of risen gas prices, which represent ‘windfall profits’ as wind farms don’t have to buy gas.
