Spain is set to unveil a national offshore wind plan this year that could see the Canary Islands developed as global hub for floating technology, a top industry official told Recharge as the nation’s government opened consultation over the strategy.

Juan Virgilio Marquez, chief executive of Spanish wind association AEE, said the Canaries and the Basque region are set to play “extremely important roles” as Spain focuses on floating offshore solutions as part of its wider national renewables plan.
