Navantia-Windar will build a factory producing supersize offshore wind monopiles in Spain after securing a 130-foundation deal from sector giant Iberdrola.

The fabricator will open the facility making XXL monopiles at the Navantia yard in Fene, A Coruna, after its compatriot group signed a framework agreement worth up to €400m ($475m) between 2023 and 2025.

Iberdrola – which has had a long-standing relationship with Navatia-Windar – is one of the world’s most active offshore wind developers with plans to advance giant projects across Europe and beyond over the next decade and hit 12GW in the water by 2030.
